The dark energy of evolution
26 April 2019
There are more viruses in the ocean than living beings on the planet. We only begin to understand its effects on biology.
Who is the king of creation? The human being, we usually think as judge and part of the debate. There is no other judge nor is there another party, because it is true that our species is the only one in 4 billion years of planetary history that has created art, poetry, science and all those things of which we are so proud as a species. As Lynn Margulis said, the central myth of culture is that humans occupy the geometrical center of creation, "halfway between God and the stone".
However, how the genomics of the oceans is revealing a very different and humiliating reality. By any objective criteria that we consider, the true kings of creation are viruses. They are here since the beginning of time, and they will remain here long after we have disappeared. Let us pay homage to the owners of the Earth.
And there is more.
The essential structure of our chromosomes*, the centromeres that guarantee the correct distribution of genetic information when a cell divides into two daughter cells, is of viral originAnd there is more. The biological tradition considers that viruses are not living beings, since they need to infect a host in order to reproduce. It is a curious point of view, since what living being is completely autonomous from its physical or biological environment? Replite homage to the masters of the Earth.
Glossary: Chromosomes: is a condensed structure of DNA present in cells that appears in constant numbers in each plant or animal species.

Text commentary:
This news seems very interesting to me, although it does not give us much information to people as a whole. For the experts, yes, they will be able to investigate things that they have never discovered and with that, improve anything in society or even the world.
I would like the news of this area to be more published since they are very curious and encourages you to read them with those titles.
